On July 13, at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater, St. Petersburg prima ballerina Diana Vishneva presented a new program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her career. The legendary St. Petersburg dancer took to the stage on her birthday and combined works by two iconic choreographers – Maurice Béjart and Pavel Glukhov – in her anniversary program.
In 2013, Vishneva performed Béjart's most famous ballet, "Bolero," in Lausanne. The ballet "Chairs," which the ballerina performed on July 13 in St. Petersburg, was originally created for the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. Béjart's celebrated choreography resonates with the absurdist humor of Eugène Ionescu, and ballet is intriguingly intertwined with dramatic theater.
The international contemporary choreography festival Context. Diana Vishneva, which she founded in 2013, is now in its fourteenth season. The Russian ballerina has become much more than its founder, its face, and the name in its title. Diana Vishneva is the festival's long-standing producer and headliner: every year, the dancer appears on stage in premiere productions.
The festival's name signifies its commitment to the global context of contemporary choreography. New and exciting names are constantly appearing in Russian contemporary choreography, and their influence is becoming ever more tangible. Among the most prominent names is Pavel Glukhov, with whom Diana has already released several works that have become a sensation in the ballet world. Among them is the dance and musical performance "The Shining," which premiered in early July to great acclaim.
Astoria Chocolatier, represented by pastry chef Ekaterina Zhelvakova, has prepared a new version of the "Diana Vishneva" dessert for the prima ballerina. The classic version is available daily at the Rotonda Lounge and the Astoria Restaurant.
