Story of Rocco Forte Hotels

Our History

The Astoria Hotel in St. Petersburg was opened in 1912 and quickly became a symbol of luxury and elegance. With its historic architecture and magnificent location near St. Isaac's Cathedral, Astoria attracted notable guests, including writers and artists.

Today, the hotel preserves its heritage while offering modern comfort and a high level of service, remaining one of the city's main attractions. We strive to make every guest feel special through our truly Russian hospitality and the unique style of service provided by our staff members!

How did you start your career in our company? What brought you here?
My career in the company began at the Angleterre Hotel,in Front Office department. I had the privilege of working under the guidance of an excellent manager, Varvara Albairak, who not only supported my professional growth but also inspired me by her example. I was honored to become the hotel’s service quality champion in 2023. This experience gave me confidence in my abilities and a desire to move forward, exploring new professional horizons.

What would you advise new employees to help them succeed in our company?
Our company truly offers opportunities for professional growth: we conduct training sessions, invite external specialists for training, and actively support colleagues who are interested in development. To achieve success in our work, first and foremost, it is important to be ready to immerse yourself fully in hotel life. In the hospitality industry, it is especially crucial to sense people and understand their needs. In my opinion, empathy is a key skill necessary for providing high-quality customer service.

How do you maintain motivation and inspiration in your work?
Pastry making never stands still — it is constantly evolving and moving forward, which greatly motivates me! New products, techniques, and textures are always emerging, so it’s impossible to stay in one place — I always want to grow and learn something new. The Astoria Hotel provides top-class services, and that’s exactly why I strive to achieve a high level of professionalism. I draw special inspiration when I see our satisfied and happy guests — for me, that is the best reward as an employee. In turn, I try to inspire the team with new ideas and approaches.

What skills or qualities do you think were key to your success?
I believe that my strongest qualities are hard work, perseverance, and determination. These are the qualities I live by, and they always help me in my work. To achieve success, it’s necessary to work hard, learn, and continue developing. Working in such a beautiful and historic place makes me want to be truly professional and to have a thorough understanding of my craft.

How do you handle setbacks or mistakes, and what have you learned from them?
I perceive setbacks as an essential and valuable part of the journey toward success. When things don’t go perfectly, I prefer to analyze the causes and identify areas for improvement: considering what I could have anticipated to ensure a flawless outcome next time. For me, every mistake is an opportunity for growth. This mindset fosters development and serves as a source of motivation rather than disappointment.

What were your initial goals when you first started working at our company, and how have they evolved over time?
In 2012, when I came to apply for a position as a waiter in the banquet service at Astoria, my initial goals were quite simple — to gain experience in a five-star hotel and to learn the service standards. However, as I immersed myself in the work—whether it was banquets, the restaurant, or in-room dining—my goals changed drastically. I became genuinely interested in the world of hospitality industry. I started independently studying professional literature, keeping up with industry trends, and watching films related to our field. The joy of working with guests and the learning process remained, but alongside that, I developed a desire for professional growth. Today, having traveled this path, I am proud to say that Astoria has been my sole employer in Saint Petersburg. My main goal now is to leverage my experience and understanding of internal processes to uphold high service standards and mentor new colleagues. My objectives have evolved, and I am committed to continuous development for the success of myself, the team, and the company.
